Listen in as Holler celebrated its 18th birthday on Dublin Digital Radio - ddr. To paraphrase Aretha Franklin, we may be “just 18, but we're old men in disguise." So tune in for another bout of ill-prepared mangling. Beardy started off this one with some drone, from the likes of Chra, Jefre Cantu-Ledesma and Dean Hurley before turning to lush ambient from Dedekind Cut. Watch out for that mournful descent into the gut wrenching poetry of North Yorkshire’s Adelle Stripe. It will hurt. Reddy stepped in with some D-Bridge dread and filth from Pariah mashing into the first of our Aretha Franklin injections with a song called America’s Nightmare. Things took a turn to variants of thug, deep and soulful house - before the bass whacked back in with club heaters tracks from the likes of Batu, Metrist, rRoxymore, Hodge, Ipman and Pinch. Things get wheeled up with a full on speed garage segment, some classic italo-house and Massive Sounds from NYC don dadda Bobby Konders. Finishing up with some electro/elec

And we are back for the month of August. Beardy brought a big old bag of drone, which definitely wasn't the good time BBQ vibes I had been planning on - but with the weather faded back to grey, it's well apt. Blasts of all the usual with new outsider dancehall riddims and grime to more uppy house sounds and peak time electro getting put through the mangle. We ran through tracks from Umwelt, Luca Lozano, Physical Therapy, Lakker, Gila, Klara Lewis, True Steppers, The Brothers Grimm, Tessela. Mad Mike and hapes more... • Holler 11 January 2018

    13/02/2018 Duración: 02h12s

Join us as we magically time travel back to the misery of dry January. Starting off with a dubbed out selection from the likes of Bush Chemists with Culture Freeman killing it on the mic, with some old Jah Woosh in the mix too, before we amble into some rhythmic excursions from Harmonious Thelonious. Things then take a bit of a turn to the ambient, with weird club and grime pieces from the likes of FIS, Fracture, Lee Gamble, Bloom, Logos, Beneath & Gaunt. The second hour dives into the more hype end of speed garage & bassline featuring Flex Kru, So Solid Crew, Pay As You Go Cartel and many more. The final twenty goes off on a rave tangent with some Shut Up and Dance breakbeat, some chopped and screwed Madonna vocals, classics from Messiah and Shed before closing it off with the Cloud 9 Mix of Hyper Go Go's High which features a bassline fully primed to mash the place down.

  • Holler 10 - December 2017

    29/11/2017 Duración: 02h00s

This one starts off with some dubwise stuff early on via Roger Robinson, the mighty Ishan Sound and the weirdo dancehall of STILL. Grimey bits from folks like Bloom raise the temp, with newish Wiley and Theresa May bashing stuff from Dizzee before we get rightly garaged off our face with Riddim Commission and Zed Bias and some UK Funky bawl outs. There's bits from Luca Lonzano, newish shit from West Norwood Cassette Library via Sneaker Club Social and a cheeky chipmunked vocal tinged garage banger from Major Grave on Never Ready. Two of our fave killer MC’s get an outing with Lady Stush and Mz Bratt carpet bombing the place. Some ridiculously heavy stuff from Hitmakerchinx, and a hook up between Dub Phizix and 90s dancehall don dadas Ward 21 too. Leading us to buff remixes of old skool bangers from Papa San, Tenor Fly and a Sweetie Irie classic about smashing the National Front at the end. • Hollerween - An Offering For The Dead

    31/10/2017 Duración: 01h59min

Myself and Ciaran have handed over the reigns of this month’s show to the spirit of Mr Nothing Face. Unnaturally enough, he’s arranged a Samhain clash between this world and that, layered with his own choice invocations. It’s the perfect piseog to ward off dickeads dressed in superhero costumes and summon the goat lord. It takes in sweeping soundtrack synths, sampled folklore, haunting dubstep, darkside jungle and some well wrong heebie UKG-eebies. It's as bleak as that soon to land post-Bank Holiday fear and having to claw your way out of some horrors of your own creation and head back to work. Remember, Mr Nothing Face is watching all of you.

    21/09/2017 Duración: 01h59min

Back again coming up for air after a month of Youtube rabbit holes and tune hoarding. This one brings the usual vocal grime artillery, endless riddim switches and lots of big loud and bashy new dancehall melded in with the odd techno tantrum. Expect to hear tunes from AJ Tracey, J:Kenzo and Collinjah, right through to new gems from from Suku, Konshens, Safaree and Hitmakerchinx. Things get ravey with Ben Klock, Lukes Anger and Mark Archer. The usual mixed bag of bruk out so.

  • Holler 7 - July 2017

    21/09/2017 Duración: 02h31s

Holler returns to bring you that dread bass sound to DDR for two hours. Things ease in with Erick Cosaque and Voltage 8 dishing out a Guadeloupean drum machine work out followed by dubby eastern flavors from DJ Sottofett. Then it's a turn to the familiar thanks to a recent excursion in Bristol, highlights include Ishann Sound's Babylon burning anthem Trojan, yet more Seekers International, heavy steppers bizness from Grand Ancestor and a Paul St. Hilaire lyrical explosion with riddim masters Jahtari. Frankie Bones and Luke Vibert bring the hardcore and there's jungle freak out fuckery from DJ Scud, Source Direct and a remastered Bay B Kane cut. The usual supporting cast of sirens, random documentary samples and other bombastic FX come strong amidst quick switches and bursts of functional grime artillery. Not for your dinner party this. 21/09/2017 Duración: 01h56min

Holler 5 went out on Dublin Digital Radio - DDR right on the dot at midnight March 16th. It'd featured not a damn tap of anything to do with Paddy's Day but came loaded with a rake of 1990's NYC dancehall, a modicum of hip hop and the usual varied array of musical weaponry myself and Ciaran listen to on loops and unleash at the imaginary raves in our heads all day long while serving time for wage slavery. Check in especially if you like the idea of serious ragga vocal tunes getting mashed into vintage UK jungle and then some. • Holler 4 - February 2017

    21/09/2017 Duración: 02h33min

Holer 4 rampages through a bunch of new finds for us, dipping deep into things like Seekers International, ravey Peder Mannerfelt bits and a square wave grime assault. There’s carnival heat from DJ Die via his Gutterfunk label, bursts of UK Funky into some banging big drum Belgian techno numbers like Capricorn’s 20Hz. We jump on the riddim bus for a Sleng Teng excursion and stop off with versions from Screechie Nice to JD Twitch among others. Elsewhere, the mighty Tenor Fly (who died the summer just gone) squares off with Starkey Banton on the merits and sins of jungle music. Set those lazers to bashment rave! And Ciaran finally gets to unload a rake of footwork with some Zed Bias and DJ Rashad joints. But not before pulling together a little segment devoted to Mark Fisher who passed some weeks ago. It’s got couple of his favorite tracks from a time when we could still imagine a future and drops a really salient speech from the man himself. The one that nearly made it across the line, as Ciaran literally eloped with somebody else half-way through. Starting off sound scapey with bits from Sophia Loizou, Fiz, Kuedo and Ital Tek and Mark Pritchard before ramping into the dread bass of Kahn and Neek and creepy crawlers from the likes of Killjoy. Bursts of bruk out from Masika, Lady Chann, Killa P and Daddy Freddy, into junglism from Pessimist. Before sailing home with eye wobble laden piano, hardcore and bleepy numbers. This one is dedicated to Darcus Howe and we pepper some sound bytes from him on the media and insurrection throughout. RIP.
