A major new survey conducted by Ibec highlights the importance of access to pan-European Unitary Patent System for Irish Businesses It highlights that 78% of businesses said that they are likely to increase their patenting activity to protect their innovations, if Ireland were to sign up to the new Unitary Patent and the Unified Patent Court (UPC) system. Naoise Gaffney, Chair of Ibec’s Intellectual Property Group spoke to Emmet Oliver on the show.

The Health Insurance Authority is urging people to review their health insurance policy before they renew it, to ensure their policies get them the best cover for themselves and their families. Over 50% of the insured population renew their policy between November and March. Laura Brian, CEO of the Health Insurance Authority joined Emmet Oliver on the show this morning.

The German company Lufthansa Technik already services aeroplanes in Shannon - and has been doing so for 30 years. But now they're opening up a further business in Co Kildare to service and repair aircraft engines for leasing companies. 20 years ago, the northern Irish economy had a productivity growth rate of roughly the same as the Republic of Ireland. Now in 2022, according to a new report from the ESRI, productivity in the south is 40% higher than that of our neighbours north of the border. At the start of this year, the property market in Ireland both in residential and commercial was booming. Sales were being agreed at up to 10% above asking prices in the residential market. We end the market on a different note with war in Europe and soaring inflation as well as rapidly rising interest rates. A cap on the amount of debt that Property investors can have and more capital may need to be set aside by the banks. Just 2 of the announcements made by the central bank in its latest financial stability review -were out yesterday. Joe spoke to the Governor of the Central bank of Ireland - Gabriel Makhlouf and began by asking him why he was raising the capital buffers for Irish banks if we are heading into a downturn, which could make it more challenging for them to lend?
