Businesses in Ireland are only starting to scratch the surface with how they can use technology to deliver their services and do more with less .One of the companies helping businesses discover that is Assiduous, which just secured one million euro in funding to deliver its services.    Speaking to Emmet on the show this morning was their CEO Fergal Meegan. 

Trump’s pause on tariffs might have brought some relief to many countries, but it could actually make Ireland more vulnerable when it comes to foreign direct investment  Trump may now be more likely to pursue tax reform that would be designed to encourage FDI companies, particularly pharma, to locate in the US. To discuss further with Emmet was Brendan Murphy, tax partner at Baker Tilly Ireland.

Ireland’s leading home care provider, Dovida, has today announced plans to hire up to 1,500 caregivers across the country.  Speaking to Tom this morning was Shane Jennings, CEO of Dovida Ireland. 

The US government has granted tariff exclusions for smartphones, computers and other electronics imported largely from China, sparing them from President Donald Trump's steep 125% reciprocal duties.   This comes after President Donald Trump’s pausing his tariffs on dozens of countries including Ireland on Wednesday for 90 days to allow time for officials to negotiate with countries that have sought to reduce them. We discuss this and more with David McRedmond, CEO of An Post.

Think about all the millions of plastic gloves and aprons that are thrown away every day by restaurants, hospitals, clean rooms and other users of Personal Protective Equipment. HaPPE Earth is an Irish start-up which sells fully compostable PPE as well as offering a service to anaerobically digest food waste on site.  Mary O'Riordan,Co-founder and CEO of HaPPE Earth has been shortlisted for a Sustainability award with the RDS Foundation.

We may be in the middle of a major trade war and probably in the foothills of a worldwide recession. Ireland will almost certainly be impacted. And indeed the consultants Morgan McKinley says that some employers are quietly letting some staff go.  Despite that, job opportunities for so-called white-collar workers were up 2% over the past year and even 7% over the past quarter. Interestingly, the number of people looking for opportunities was also up by even more – 16%.  But companies are adjusting but not scrapping their diversity programmes. All to discuss with Trayc Keevans, Global FDI Director at Morgan McKinley. 

Sebastian Mallaby wrote a book about hedge funds called ‘More Money than God’ and in that book he writes about a ‘hedgie’ called Scott Bessent who played a huge role in betting against Sterling in 1992.  Sebastian Mallaby is the Paul Volcker Senior Fellow for International Economics with the Council on Foreign Relations joined Joe this morning.
