 Today my guest is epidemiologist Dr. Becky Dawson, and we are exploring “getting public”: public scholarship, putting yourself out there, communicating your scholarship to a wider audience. Today is International Women's Day and we wanted to host a conversation about the day because… it's complicated! How hard are you on yourself? Do you find yourself constantly judging yourself for the ways that you think you fall short? If you've never experienced a virtual writing retreat I think you might be surprised how effective it is. There are so many upsides to a virtual writing retreat, and we really had a great time. The theme of the event was compassionate accountability, emphasizing compassion, self appreciation, dealing with rejection, and pouring into yourself. I was inspired by our recent client retreat to bring you a podcast about self love in your career. I wanted to pull out a thread from our retreat and share it with you.    This retreat was called “compassionate accountability,” and our coaches designed workshops around this theme to deliver at our annual client-only retreat. At the end we had a group coaching session in which we asked about takeaways and how this retreat had changed the way clients thought about their work. Have you ever struggled with pushing ‘send’ on a piece for publication? In this episode I’m giving you an update on my book process, including timeline, cover reveals, and how hard it is to let go of that final draft.  It’s time for installment three on my book writing process!  In episode 60 I shared part 1, a dive into the publishing world, deciding on academic vs. traditional publishing houses, figuring out what I wanted to say, and the fear that I wouldn’t have enough words to put on the page (spoiler: I did). In episode 79 I shared part 2, all about figuring out my own writing process, getting mindset and development help from book coach Jane Jones, and how I got the writing done. In this episode, I want to continue to be open about what scares me, give you an overview of all the professionals I’ve worked with to help bring this book to life, and share an update on the book timeline.
