Perry Chafe is a Newfoundland-based writer, showrunner, and co-creator of TV series Republic of Doyle or writer / producer for Son of a Critch. Closer by Sea is a coming-of-age story perfect for book clubs, and comparable to Mary Lawson’s A Town Called Solace, or the film Stand by Me (Stephen King). It’s about the mysterious disappearance of a young girl and the fragility of childhood bonds, set during the 90s, against the backdrop of a small island community adapting to an ever-changing landscape.
