People end up being homeless due to circumstances that went out of their control. There’s a wrong perception that homelessness is a choice and these people would rather stay on the streets than find a job. However, the best service one can provide to homeless people is providing them with the resources to secure a job so they can sustain a household. Employment can play an important role in recovery. People with histories of homelessness, including those with disabilities, often want to work given the opportunity and support to do so. When people who previously experienced homelessness are placed in housing, many develop feelings of isolation. Employment not only provides income, but offers a structured activity with a sense of purpose and accomplishment.
