Paul, a Navy veteran and anesthesiologist has competed in many triathlons , including the famous and very difficult Escape from Alcatraz. But starting in 2009, he endured a harrowing medical saga, that involved heart surgery’s, deadly bacteria, infections and more, which culminated in an above knee amputation in January, 2020. But Paul , with great encouragement from his wife Teresa, and family, still would not take things lying down. He would compete again. The Challenged Athletes Foundation played a big part in getting Paul back in the sport.
