This Monday on Accent ON! host ILONA EUROPA interviewed composer producer STEVE GOOMAS together with young, talented singer songwriter Valerie Antonette. Valerie Antonette was born and raised the fifth generation of her maternal heritage to live in the town of San Pedro, California. As the smokestacks infiltrate the clean ocean breeze, so too does this port-town setting subvert itself into the music of her solo debut, “Time Left Awake.” Songs like “She’ll Be Broken Down” serve as maritime metaphors for love lost, decayed promises, and diminished dreams. Valerie admits to being drawn to the deep and dark, the playful and poppy vibe of songs like “Put ‘Em Up” testify to her more light-hearted nature.
