The hashtag #BlackGirlMagic has created a culture on and off social media of a steady yet strong celebration of black women being amazing and doing amazing things from creating culture shifting content to inserting their intellectual prowess. Black Girl Magic is something every woman is aspiring to be or is she?  After being a part of a panel discussion with about 20 black and brown girls in an urban school district in Lansing, MI, myself and another panelist discover that there were adverse affects of the Black Girl Magic movement.
