The year was 1991 and a song called “Rico Suave” made it’s way to Number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. I sit down today with THE Rico Suave AKA Gerardo Mejia! Pastor Gerardo Mejia, a native of Ecuador, moved to Southern California with his family at 12 years old. He would soon become an overnight success in the film and music industry. Gerardo appeared in numerous television and film roles, most notably for his leads in “Can’t Buy Me Love” with Patrick Dempsey and "Colors" with Sean Penn.  He would soon become known all over the world for his song “Rico Suave” from the top selling album, “Mo Ritmo”.  After Gerardo’s success as an artist, he continued to work behind the scenes as an A&R Executive for nearly a decade. He was responsible for procuring and closing the signing of Enrique Iglesias and was the A&R for his first two English albums.  Gerardo was also the first artist ever signed to Interscope Records before the days of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg.
