Pod Thai - Maanii I

This lesson introduces five new consonants: จ /cɔɔ/, ช /chɔɔ/, ส /sɔ̌ɔ/, ท /thɔɔ/, and ว /wɔɔ/. The short vowel /ay/ has two written forms ใ- and ไ- and is written to the left of the main consonant.

The lesson introduces three new consonants: พ /phɔɔ/, ร /rɔɔ/, and ห /hɔ̌ɔ/. The long vowel [saara] โ- /oo/ is written to the left of the main consonant. [Later you will see that a short medial โ-ะ /o/ is never written; it is implied. For example, milk; breast; /nom/ = นม.

The goal of this lesson is to read new words in the context of Maanii's uncle's ricefield. This lesson introduces new consonants for visual and audio discrimination: ด /dɔɔ/, ง /ŋgɔɔ/, and ป /pɔɔ/. Practice saying them aloud and writing them. The long vowel [saara] -ู /uu/ is written under the main consonant.

The goal of this first lesson is to read ten words in the context of a simple story about a Thai girl named Maanii. Five consonants: ก /kɔɔ /, ต /tɔɔ/, ม /mɔɔ/, น /nɔɔ/, and อ /ɔɔ/ as well as two long vowels [in Thai "saah-ra"]: - า /aa/ and -ี /ii/ are introduced.
