God With Us: Jesus, Week 20Master: The Upper Room Discourse Only the gospel of John contains an extended “Upper Room Discourse” that Jesus spoke to His disciples on the last night of His life. This discourse has been called “marching orders” from Jesus to His disciples, as He was about to leave them in the world to continue with His mission. As His public ministry unfolded, Jesus came under fire primarily for three reasons: 1) He kept doing things in violation of the “Traditions of the Elders.” 2) Jesus came to interact with “sinners.” 3) Jesus made claims that, to the Pharisees, were blasphemous.
