Two Friends Watch

After several non-starts I've finally got this one edited and ready for listening. It contains a LOT of colourful language and two grumpy podcasters who hated almost every minute of this film. We will definitely be reviewing the much better 2014 version at some point (once we get through this backlog) 40 mins

This week we look at this James Bond-esque film that decided to have fun and modernise some of the old tropes of the "end of the world" spy film. Our biggest problem was that despite the writers best efforts some of the traditional flaws of a Bond film still come through, particularly regarding women. 44 mins

So after a long break (and a few work issues that's caused delays for the last couple of months) we are back and jumping straight into a really wonderful if not a bit odd Chinese animation. Despite Donald and I  being the wrong target audience in nearly every sense we nevertheless thoroughly enjoyed this brilliant gem of a film. 38 mins

So in hindsight it turns out that Star Wars The Last Jedi is causing massive divisions in opinion. After Bone Tomahawk we do something lighter...oh who am I kidding? It's Silence of the Lambs! A dark and rather literary horror film, this has fantastic performances, great direction and beautiful cinematography. It won every award know to man and we somehow make jokes about it. Because that's how we roll. 47 mins

This was a bit of a longer episode than normal, mostly because it's hard to shut Donald up about this film. Bone Tomahawk, a dark and violent horror western that maybe goes too far trying to shock the audience but still delivers solid acting and a simple but well written story. 58 mins

This is the first time that Daniel has seen this 1998 cult classic. On this episode we try to piece together a plot and discuss the various weird merits of this wonderfully odd film. Sorry for the poor quality at the start, we should have fixed this in future episodes. 35 mins

This week we review Shane Black's The Nice Guys. A wonderful dark comedy about a hitman and an incompetent private investigator taking on a mysterious murder in the porn industry. 28 mins

Basically it's 35 minutes of Daniel completely gushing over this really good film. This is hard film to sell in some ways as it's so surreal and brilliant but also comes off as slap stick and immature when describing it. 35 mins

One hell of a weird film that promises strong casual racism, painful American Patriotism, and the promise of a 1000 year third Reich (or would it be a fourth Reich now?). In general the film starts of fun, moves into awkward and finishes with flat out painful. 32 mins

British biographical romantic drama film directed by James Marsh and adapted by Anthony McCarten from the memoir "Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen" by Jane Wilde Hawking. This is a serious well acted, well developed, and thoroughly enjoyable film. Beware of Donald's "Rocky" build up at the very end, it's intense! 47 mins

Bit of a different style to this weeks episode, Donald and I have a semi-focused discussion on why the Video Game movie industry produces fairly consistent poor quality movies. 31 mins

In this weeks episode we review Doom, the 2005 Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson action...spectacular? The review covers Bras, Celine Dion, Koala Bears, La la Land and occasionally the movie we are meant to be reviewing. 42 mins

Not sure what I was expecting but this wan't it. A very powerful and rather bleak look at the War on Drugs. This film is about a principled FBI agent who is enlisted by a government task force to bring down the leader of a powerful and brutal Mexican Drug Cartel. This film (and the episode) touches on some dangerous topics. 45 mins

Serpico is one hell of a sad film as you get through it. It's basically one mans consistent trials and tribulations through his time in the NYPD. All he wants is to be an honest Cop, but back in the early 1970's that wasn't an easy task. Sorry about the poor audio quality, we are looking to improve it soon. 35 mins

In what I believe is Andrew's last podcast with us for a while, we finish his run with a bit of an odd choice of movie, America's Sweethearts. A 2001 Rom-Com with a very strong cast but a rather weak story and Romantic plot. I does have Christopher Walken playing a rather eccentric director. 26 mins

In this week's episode we review Blade Runner, one of the greatest science fiction films ever made and of course one Daniel hasn't seen. Instead of the Judge Dredd-esque action film its title suggests we find a deep and thought provoking movie with an awful lot worth discussing. 47 mins

Watch as a script nine years in the making completely wastes some of the best acting talent on offer. This mess of a film has no idea what it wants to be and leans so heavily on obviously fake pseudo-science it hurts. Regardless of all its problems it still managed to make eleven, yes eleven, times its budget back. The mind boggles it really does. 26 mins

Our first episode of 2017 proper, we've decided to tackle another difficult art film - this time, it's the English language debut of the acclaimed Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos, "The Lobster." A clinically observed, pitch-black comedy on the nature of monogamous relationships, we found it easy to admire but difficult to love. 37 mins

Merry Christmas? Happy New year? Happy Valentines? Yeah sorry everyone for this incredibly late episode. Everything in the universe from internet issues, computer issues, software issues, work issues, etc, etc got in the way of this episode. Also sorry for the Audio quality, you wouldn't believe the editing involved just to get it to this state. Also we all loved the film some more than others. Discussions are had in the show.
