That Was Avoidable: A Married Couples Movie/tv Podcast

Sam and Jessica watch the atrocious 1986 non-classic Howard the Duck based on the Marvel comics character.  We talk about the appalling amount of money it cost, how it didn't make that back and the creepy sexual content to what is supposed to be a family film. Probably the worst movie we ever have seen.

On this podcast Jessica and Sam talk about the ups and downs of the early third season, whether LEXX is misogynistic or not and about our fluffy cat.

We're back.  After about a month long hiatus we have returned to bring back our own sensibilities on what we watch.  Thanks to a suggestion by a listener we have decided with our return to begin tackling LEXX once again, this time with the final episode of season 2 and the first episode of season 3.  As well we ramble on a bit about what we have been up to and just random things here or there.   Warning:  Spoilers for the two episodes of LEXX as well as possible spoilers for the movie Dead Ringers and various other things we talk about randomly.

After two weeks of taking a brief hiatus due to life, Sam and Jessica get back to reviewing Farscape.  In this podcast, we talk about episodes four, five and six, our current issues with the show and the things we enjoy about it.  We also discuss the beginnings of our love of the character of Zhaan. As we work on our next batch of episodes involving Farscape and the upcoming Moviecast we were finally able to finish editing down hours 3 and 4 of our Super Sentai Zyuranger Super Binge watch that we did on July 2nd.  Jessica and Sam mock their cat for wanting to get out, Dan (the blue ranger) continues to annoy Sam and the seams of Jessica's sanity start to thread away. There is a decent amount of swearing in this one.

For this movie podcast Jessica and Sam watch Wes Craven's 1982 adaptation of the DC comics character Swamp Thing.  Together they try to find the words to describe a movie that generally comes across as effectively mediocre.  Like, well crafted mediocrity.  As well they dig deep to really try to understand why the creature effects were so bad. As always and forever, spoilers and Sam still swears a lot.

Having drastically switched gears Jessica and Sam start their trip down the Farscape rabbit hole with the first three episodes of the series.  Hear how much they enjoyed it, and how much more they enjoyed it than their attempt with LEXX. As always, spoilers and Sam swears a lot.

Warning:  Spoilers not only for the Battle Royale movies but or Hunger Games as well, be wary. Sam ends up showing Jessica one of his favorite Japanese movies of all time, Battle Royale and then follow it up with the epicly disappointing sequel.  It's a romp through violent Japanese Cinema from the early 2000's!

On July 2nd Sam and Jessica took all day and watched all 50 episodes straight of Super Sentai Zyuranger and recorded the full experience.  On this first release we watch the first six episodes of this show which was the original source material for the United States Power Rangers.  We see the differences between the shows, remark on the Blue Ranger Dan's insecurity issues and the difference between evil goatee's and evil goat teeth as you hear the program in the background. Condensing down just over two hours of recording into just over 48 minutes of anything worthwhile we have here for you the very first episode of That Was Avoidable's, "Super Sentai Zyuranger Super Binge!"

Sam and Jessica have decided to drop their viewing of LEXX and replace it with Farscape, listen to why.  Also, hear our general thoughts on television shows we enjoy.  Just a basic, simple tangent as we switch gears on the show we watch.

In this episode, released days after its intention, Sam subjects Jessica to the Fantasy cult movie Legend from 1985,  The movie was infamous for having a drastically different cut from the theatrical to the director's.  Jessica was forced to sit through two viewings of the movie, both the theatrical and the director's (who is Ridley freaking Scott by the way) cut. Did she enjoy the movie, or did she just up and turn to Sam at one point and ask why she was watching the same movie twice?  Tune in to find out.

No, your eyes do not deceive you, Sam and Jessica have decided to skip the last two episodes of LEXX's first season.   Instead they jump into the second season trying to avoid the lower quality.  Was it a good decision?  Will it be worthwhile or will Jessica still not be a fan of the new season?  Only time will tell.

For this episode Sam introduces Jessica to a side of eighties horror movies that she has not seen in the movie Critters.  In this movie furry balls with teeth escape a prison asteroid and head to Earth where they wreak toothy hungry havoc on unsuspecting Kansas natives while face-changing bounty hunters are on their rear. Is this movie silly enough for Jessica to enjoy it, or shall it be just one more nail in Sams ever growing coffin?

In an attempt to keep his wife from leaving him, Sam subjects his wife Jessica to a sweet fun movie from 1987, "batteries not included". Through the sweet fun moments of seeing small robot alien spaceships helping out the kind tenants of an apartment complex Jessica slowly remembers why she married Sam. Will it last though, will this treat be enough to keep her with him, tune in to find out!!

In our second episode we begin our run of the late nineties show LEXX, starting with the first to hour and a half episodes which originally ran on Showtime before moving over to the Sci-Fi channel.  In episode one "I worship his Shadow" we meet the cast as they come together and in episode two "Super Nova" we get to see how they work together. Has Sam bitten off more than he can chew and began the process of reducing his value in his wifes eyes?  Or will Jessica look at this as just some ridiculous Samism and continue looking at him with love?  Tune in to see.

In 1983 this not so classic Canadian animated film was created about an evil rock god kidnapping a female singer with a special voice, attempting to force her to help summon a demon while her bandmates try to save her.  It features music made just for it by Lou Reed, Debbie Harry, Iggy Pop and Cheap Trick with a special song from Earth Wind and Fire.  This not-so-classic eventually found it's way to Sam's eyes.  Having just bought the Blu-Ray copy of it Sam must force his loving wife Jessica to watch and suffer through this odd unknown movie. How will Jessica fare with this movie, will she enjoy it as Sam has done since he was a teenager or will she all of a sudden regret having married this nutjob?

This is just a quick small intro into what our podcast is and to test the system, because why not.
