To the surprise of absolutely no one, Jinkx turns and it and burns it, nabbing her fifth win of the season and polishing her spot in the Top 4. Third time’s a charm for Trinity, Viv gives good British roast and Monet sinks her teeth into it. The queens are taking to TikTok for this week’s dance challenge wrapped in a branding challenge. While this challenge is right on Shea’s Alvin Alley, Yvie’s angst ranks her high, and Jaida is the true queen for all seasons, it’s Mother’s Day for Jinkx and payday for Monet, who serve a spoken word lip sync that’ll knock your lights out. This fever dream of an acting challenge is two parts Mean Girls, one part Black Christmas and, as we see this week, not all parts are equal. This week’s episode is a strange early 2000’s MTV throwback to girl groups, but featuring boy band vocals and followed by a Dolly Parton runway. In teams of two, the queens take very different approaches to this, with Jinkx leading The Other Girls in a pseudo-acting challenge to a clear victory over the M.S.T.R. sisters. It’s been a long journey since June went home in January, but Season 14 ends in Las Vegas on the stage of Drag Race Live. The final 5 are given Leland produced songs and some backup dancers to perform with for about a minute and change, which just means more time spent watching RuPaul avoid eye contact with nearly everybody. Symone brings denim to the winners circle, Kornbread gets a nice consolation prize, Michelle gets to present a key, and ultimately Camden and Willow face off in a final performance that all felt very pre-determined. While a music video for the semifinal challenge of the season is a little predictable, this episode certainly was not.
