The Hateful Eight (2015)
06/09/2021 Duración: 34minThis is a movie podcast hosted by two dudes. So here's another Tarantino movie. The difference is that this time it's the lesser host Web's favorite QT flick. One could blame the better host (and author of these show notes) Mike for not seeing this coming... but the author of these show notes is far more comfortable blaming his partner on this podcast. In keeping with the theme of this month's trilogy there's plenty of blame to go around! Such as: The Roadshow version on Netflix is now quite distasteful (no intermission!) The attacks on Michael Madsen's looks are also quite distasteful (he just wants to visit his mother for Christmas!) And not enough Zoe Bell (agreed!) And if you still haven't had enough arguments... wait for the finale of this TRILOGY IN THEORY! 12 Angry Men (1957)
19/08/2021 Duración: 34minOne host has a new favorite movie... and it's no longer Guy Ritchie's SNATCH. Meanwhile the other host is hoping for a "sluttier" version of the classic 12 ANGRY MEN... and THANKFULLY there exists a cable tv version starring Jack Lemmon and James Gandolfini. Sexy. But that is for another episode of TRILOGY IN THEORY as this month's theme is kicked off by the Sidney Lumet "original" but not the crappy television version that both hosts couldn't be bothered to check out on their Criterion Collection discs. We are busy men! Making podcasts. For you! Historical Fiction Team-Ups... of the 60s
12/08/2021 Duración: 29minWe start with funny books, hate on true stories and in the end save all the compliments for ourselves. It's the ultimate team-up as your two hosts take on the likes of great artist such as Darwyn Cooke, Quentin Tarantino and then we throw in Guy Ritchie because even we make mistakes! But this matters not as we can rewrite our own reality with a historical fiction trilogy where Martian Manhunter, the man who played Superman and Brad Pitt is just around the corner to save the day in (take notes here, because we have three prior episodes that could use the downloads) JUSTICE LEAGUE: THE NEW FRONTIER THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. ONCE UPON A TIME... IN HOLLYWOOD All of those (and so many more!) can be found at the links below: Support what we do with bonus content and early episodes on Patreon Twitter/Instagram/Facebook: @trilogyintheory Tweet at your hosts: @projectingfilm & @webistrying Letterboxd: @projectingfilm & @webistrying Artwork by: @nasketchs Find out more at https://trilogyintheory.pinecast.co Thi

Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood (2019)
04/08/2021 Duración: 35minNot since the hosts of this very podcast has there been a more handsome team-up. Slightly better hair on Leo and Brad, though. We should hate them. But we don't. Although it took one host a few rides out to the squatters known as the Manson family before it clicked. This Brad Pitt guy really IS incredibly handsome. And cool. We should just hang out with these guys in ONCE UPON A TIME... IN HOLLYWOOD every week. That's the medicine the brighter host takes. It hasn't helped with hair loss but pretty much everything else. Enjoy! The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015)
31/07/2021 Duración: 26minYour much beloved hosts team up to take down a cannibal... ... and also Guy Ritchie's film adaptation of THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. which is just silly. Silly in that the sell by date for this particular IP is well past relevancy? Silly in that we find it more absurd than our previous selected film which features a shapeshifting martian saving the world? Silly in... OKAY, we can admit that Henry Cavill really does wear a suit well. Worth a watch and a listen! Justice League: The New Frontier (2008)
21/07/2021 Duración: 29minOne host gets his way to take this podcast direct-to-video... ...and then keeps apologizing for it. Is it because he does not enjoy our selection of JUSTICE LEAGUE: THE NEW FRONTIER? No. But he does admit that his reasoning is he bought a new toy to sit on his shelf and so here we are as we kick off a team-up trilogy with Darywn Cooke's all-hands-on-deck look at the DC Universe and the best comic book adaptation. That also happens to be a cartoon. That went straight to video. We'll never do this again. Maybe. Enjoy! Hitchcockian Duality (Dressed to Kill, What Lies Beneath and Shutter Island)
14/07/2021 Duración: 53minWe restrain ourselves... in a trilogy on film love excess. The three films selected not only are a celebration of three prior months/trilogies on this podcast... I'll wait as you go back and download every single episode. Ahem... THEY ARE ALSO doing a cover of sort of The Master of Suspense as we get callbacks to PSYCHO in Brian De Palma's DRESSED TO KILL. Some REAR WINDOW in Robert Zemeckis' WHAT LIES BENEATH... which is perhaps the greatest film ever featured on this podcast. REAR WINDOW would be #2. And last but not least that hack Martin Scorsese gets in on the action with SHUTTER ISLAND. Would this be VERTIGO or THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY? At that point in the podcast we were having too much fun and may have lost the thread. Enjoy! A Breakdown of a Trip
26/06/2021 Duración: 27minWe take a trip based solely on our love for pudding. And also Alfred Hitchcock's PSYCHO. And Woody Allen's BLUE JASMINE... or Cate Blanchett's BLUE JASMINE if you'd rather. But in a third act twist (and one host hates that it comes to this) you have our resident Criterion Collection hater who waits for our wrap-up show to finally warm to Paul Thomas Anderson's PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE. This marks a year of the journey that is TRILOGY IN THEORY. Thank you for coming along for the ride and ending up not quite like Janet Leigh but you still met a couple of perverts with a weird and abrasive hobby called podcasting. Many thanks. Here's to another year. Blue Jasmine (2013)
17/06/2021 Duración: 23minIn which Cate Blanchett has more than a few financial problems but is still better off than people who spend their time podcasting. Anytime now, Spotify. Anyway... Ms. Blanchett is great here. As is Sally Hawkins. And we suppose the director (WHO SHALL REMAIN NAMELESS) does some fine work as well. Casting Louis CK as The Other Man was a curious choice even in 2013. But Cate Blanchett is so good! Just to go back to that Louis CK point... he was The Other Man to... Bobby Cannavale. That's it. This is the last Woody Allen episode. Thanks for listening. Punch-Drunk Love (2002)
09/06/2021 Duración: 26minIn which we wonder what Paul Thomas Anderson saw in BILLY MADISON and/or HAPPY GILMORE. And we don't stop questioning universally sanctioned arbiters of taste! One host continues to take the Criterion Collection to task for their choices while the other questions his co-host's mentioning of THE BIG BANG THEORY in relation to the modern classic that is PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE. This is episode 50 of TRILOGY IN THEORY and thank you for taking this trip with us as we continue our breakdown trilogy. Psycho (1960)
02/06/2021 Duración: 32minIn which we wonder if there is anything left to say about PSYCHO... and then spend a half hour talking about PSYCHO. But mainly this episode is about one question... when is the right time to watch PSYCHO? And also... do spoilers matter for a film like this that has influenced so much that came after? And the answer is now. And spoilers don't matter... as longs you are listening to a TRILOGY IN THEORY episode on it. So now Alfred Hitchcock's film is worthy. That's how that works. Grieving Mothers, Good Movies
26/05/2021 Duración: 31minIn which one host still just wants to talk about ALIENS and refuses to honor mothers. As much as I love throwing my co-host under the bus in these show notes (as it truly is the only contribution I make to this podcast) I believe he will suffer no hardship this week. For neither of our mothers listen to this show. However YOU, dear listener, can fix that by highly recommending this very show to your mothers. Especially if you have a less than ideal relationship with them. Like one who abandoned you to hang out with a cat in space. Or maybe switched careers to end up on the more profitable side of the war on drugs. My pick? Always go with Anna Kendrick. This is our episode on ALIENS, TRAFFIC, and A SIMPLE FAVOR. Traffic (2000)
13/05/2021 Duración: 24minIn which we talk about one man's continued hatred for films in The Criterion Collection. When faced with a film tackling the war on drugs... what do the hosts of TRILOGY IN THEORY focus on? A teenage addiction to SUNCOAST VIDEO. Being ashamed to take one's kid brother to Steven Soderbergh's slightly more enjoyable film OUT OF SIGHT. And of course nitpicking the poster of this box-office and Oscar winning ensemble film aimed at adults with serious subject matter now relegated to television miniseries. STILL... not a one sheet worthy of a college dorm room wall. Ultimately we talk about the things that matter. Aliens (1986)
05/05/2021 Duración: 30minIn which we praise sequels... the few that are good. We kick off a new month of a TRILOGY IN THEORY by starting in the middle of the story, specifically with James Cameron's ALIENS. Taking over for Ridley Scott (something we decree to happen again! thank you, ALIEN: COVENANT box-office...) this time we find Ripley as the woman in the room who knows more than the men making decisions... and look what good that does her. Along the way one host wonders if this is the film that made his decision on parenthood (it stinks!) and the other host (who made the mistake of procreating) swears that there is still time in the day for DVD special features. No one believes him. Directors Repeating Themselves
01/05/2021 Duración: 38minNever before have you heard anyone repeat themselves on a podcast. Right? We never promised to break new ground on TRILOGY IN THEORY... which means we are very comfortable with a theme on directors repeating prior works in their filmography with a trilogy of CLERKS 2, DRAG ME TO HELL and BOYHOOD. Kevin Smith, Sam Raimi and Richard Linklater had no fear of proper critics taking them to task for running out of ideas... but it's safe to say they didn't expect this podcast to hold them accountable. But today is that day. The lack of creativity ends now, filmmakers. Leave that where it belongs. On movie podcasts. Boyhood (2014)
26/04/2021 Duración: 26minIn which one host learns just what those crazy teenagers have been up to all these years. Never before has a Criterion Collection been more educational than when one host was appalled to learn about... underage drinking. More revelations would follow as we discussed Richard Linklater's BOYHOOD but also some accusations. Such as... Does the boy in BOYHOOD actually know how to read? Is he REALLY a fan of the Harry Potter series or just a POSER? And finally... is he more attractive than the character of ANGUS? You know... the hefty fellow in that charming family film that gave James Van Der Beek his start. And a grateful nation thanked Mr. Linklater for adding another masterpiece to the wing of adolescence angst. THE 400 BLOWS. VARSITY BLUES. BOYHOOD! Drag Me To Hell (2009)
19/04/2021 Duración: 24minIn which we judge an old lady for judging Alison Lohman. It's a tradition on TRILOGY IN THEORY (and in particular this month) to rewatch films that are decidedly unpleasant. Sam Raimi does not disappoint in that regard as he returned to his roots of gross-out gags and humorous horror and boy do we feel sorry for Alison Lohman for being the recipient of all those shenanigans in DRAG ME TO HELL. We feel so sorry that both hosts make a solemn vow to Never. Watch. This. Movie. Again. But we are asking you to listen to this episode. And also no promises are made about not purchasing this movie in a different format. Clerks 2 (2006)
11/04/2021 Duración: 33minIn which we express concern for Rosario Dawson's love life. On this podcast there is one Dante and one Randal... and absolutely no Rosario Dawson around. Kevin Smith kicks off our trilogy of returns with his return to CLERKS 2 and we find that much like the film itself, coming back to these characters changes with age. But we still feel bad for Rosario Dawson. Really bad. Ending in Failure.... and Loving It! (Dr. Strangelove, The Player and Freddy vs. Jason)
02/04/2021 Duración: 53minThis Will Be A Pleasant Bit of Unpleasantness. Whenever a podcast opens with a Monty Python sketch... show notes must come in to apologize to our dear listeners. And also to assure them that it will end. It will all end. We celebrate another three months of trilogies in theory by going back to our opening to 2021 with End of the World Speeches... only this time Stanley Kubrick finally gets off the bench with his first selection to this podcast in DR. STRANGELOVE: OR HOW I LEARNED TO STOP WORRYING AND LOVE THE BOMB. Then it's Robert Altman's turn with THE PLAYER stepping in as an alternate take on our previous The Love of Movies Brought to Life trilogy. And finally in the company of Kubrick and Altman is naturally Ronny Yu with his equally established classic FREDDY VS. JASON. All of this is to say PLEASE stick around after the Monty Python bit. Thank you and the host writing these show notes apologizes. Truly. His name is Mike. He's a good guy. Web, also known as The Other Guy... is not. Support what we do wi
