Sinopsis

A podcast about movies and the rappers who make them. Hosted by Ryan and Anthony aka The Devastating Delicious Boyz). Ryan loves movies (and rap) while Anthony loves rap (but not movies). They've been friends for a long time and have done multiple radio shows together where they bust each other's balls just like this one.

  • 117: Snow on tha Bluff (Curtis Snow)

    02/07/2021 Duración: 01h12min

This found footage style film doesn't star any major rappers, but it definitely stands squarely in "rap movie" territory, following stick up man Curtis Snow as he steals and fights to get by in an Atlanta neighborhood known as "The Bluff"

  • 116: CHESS The Musical (ABBA, Murray Head)

    01/04/2021 Duración: 01h41min

April Fools style, we watched CHESS: The Musical...for reasons.

  • 115: I Accidentally Domed Your Son (Kurupt)

    21/02/2021 Duración: 01h15min

We finally watched the 2003 classic I ACCIDENTALLY DOMED YOUR SON starring Kurupt. No film has made it more clear how broken we are by this whole rap movie exercise. Or maybe we're just better for it. It's got a script! Good sound! Good jokes! Kurupt is in it! We loved it, so of course Ant had to dig up some unreleased Kurupt to celebrate.

  • 114: No Holds Barred (TINY 'ZEUS' LISTER)

    14/12/2020 Duración: 01h22min

REST IN POWER TINY 'ZEUS' LISTER. We rushed an episode to pay homage to a fallen demigod. The president of the damn galaxy.

  • 113: Queen of the Damned (Aaliyah)

    28/10/2020 Duración: 01h48min

It's Spooky Season, so we had to do our internet-mandated "horror" episode. So we dug up QUEEN OF THE DAMNED, a horror "musical"(?) featuring songs by Jonathan Davis of Korn and starring none other than Aaliyah. We REALLY try and talk about Aaliyah, but we also talk a lot about Korn's surprising crossovers into the rap world. We do find time to play some FIRE Aaliyah songs though. Anyway enjoy this very spooky episode.

  • 112: Dead Presidents (Sticky Fingaz, Heather B)

    12/10/2020 Duración: 01h14min

After getting ROASTED on University of Dope for not having seen 1995's DEAD PRESIDENTS, we finally watched this classic Vietnam epic, starring Sticky Fingaz, Heather B, Larenz Tate, Bokeem Woodbine, Michael Imperioli, Chris Tucker, Keith David, Clifton Powell, Terrence Howard, and many more.Directed by the Hughes Brothers, this was the follow up to their smash MENACE II SOCIETY. This episode gives Ant time to fire off his usual spiciness about the Vietnam War, and we get to discuss tracks by Pharoahe Monch and R.A. The Rugged Man.Check out University of Dope right here:https://www.universityofdope.com/

  • 110: WCW Master P & No Limit Soldiers Vs. West Texas Rednecks (Ft. @funkyassdg)

    24/08/2020 Duración: 01h34min

Chris from the Bad Wrestling Podcast (@badwrespodcast) came through to talk about that one time in 1999 when Master P, Silk The Shocker and C-Murder all graced the WCW squared circle to do battle with some rap-hating cowboys from Minnesota. It's a lot. It's a wrestling thing so most of the episode is just me asking dumb questions and these two wrestling geniuses being very patient in educating.https://twitter.com/funkyassdghttps://twitter.com/badwrespodcast

  • 109: HAMILTON (Ft. Scout Tafoya)

    13/07/2020 Duración: 01h41min

We watched the rap musical. We attempt to answer the question of "why" it is rap, and "what" are the weirder implications of giving the founding fathers this treatment. Filmmaker and critic Scout Tafoya (@honors_zombie) joins us to try and figure it out. And Anthony had a baby! So we get to celebrate that before we spend a lot of time well...not celebrating the musical. Some of the best tracks weve ever featured as well, available below:https://youtu.be/UNa4RdfFjuIhttps://youtu.be/pKUrQMYMv04We also forego our normal formula and just talk. So enjoy!

  • 108: THE CARTER (Lil Wayne) Ft. Abe Beame

    30/06/2020 Duración: 01h45min

Abe Beame (@TheFakeAbeBeame) came through to discuss The Carter, the 2008 documentary following Lil Wayne in the portentous months before his greatest success with The Carter III. Its a dark look at his incredible (and incredibly self destructive) creative process at a time when there was literally no one better on the mic. Abe pitched this episode in connection with an article he put together about Wayne's legendary mixtape run AND the idea of the mixtape as art form.Read it right here: https://www.passionweiss.com/2020/06/30/how-lil-wayne-remixed-the-mixtape/And the episode is great! The film has some darkness so we do cover some heavy topics, but we do our best to keep it light. And if you wanna hear some of the most "rap scholarly" talk we've ever had on this show, we go DEEP into Wayne's style starting at 1:17.

  • 107: IDLEWILD Ft. Brother N8 (Big Boi, Andre 3000, Macy Gray, Sleepy Brown, Farnsworth Bentley)

    08/06/2020 Duración: 01h49min

We finally did it! Nate from the Kings of Sport podcast came through to watch the Outkast musical, IDLEWILD starring Big Boi, Andre 3000, Terrence Howard, Macy Gray and more. We all have strong opinions about Outkast, so we get into our feelings pretty quick on this one. We struggle, but ultimately find a lot to love in this messy masterpiece. We also talk about Da Art of Storytellin' Part 4, and a B.O.B. song with a great Andre verse. It's a long episode, so if you just want to hear us talk about music, that starts at 1:05.

  • 106: MTV Rock N Jock Basketball 93 (Kay Gee, Flava Flav, The Black Crowes)

    18/05/2020 Duración: 01h49min

For a few short weeks, ESPN's The Last Dance was the best piece of basketball content on the planet. Well here's the second best. We watched 1993's MTV Rock and Jock Basketball. The third annual, which overlaps tidily with The Last Dance. Its got Dan Majerle, Rick Mahorn, Ed Lover, Bill Bellamy, Dan Cortez, Tag Team performing at half time, Jon Stewart in the booth, and most importantly it has Kay Gee from Naughty By Nature on The Violators. Kay Gee is an incredibly underrated producer, and after we get through all the insane basketball and 90's pop culture conversation, we look at some lesser-known tracks that he produced. The audio is of "remote" quality but its very listenable. I know we loved doing it and there will definitely be more Rocks and Jocks in our future.

  • 105: Thicker Than Water (Mack 10, Fat Joe, Ice Cube, Big Pun, MC Eiht, B-Real, Krayzie Bone, Layzie Bone, Bad Azz)

    07/05/2020 Duración: 01h32min

Watch this movie! It's free on Youtube and it's great. Mack 10 and Fat Joe play one time rivals turned business partners caught between hustling and the creative process. It was produced by Mack 10 himself with some help by Priority Films, and it has everyone in it - Ice Cube, Big Pun, B-Real, Krayzie and Layzie Bone, MC Eiht as a guy who sucks at Taboo, and Mack 10 co-leading with Fat Joe.

  • 104: HUSTLERS Ft. Abbey (Jennifer Lopez, Cardi B, Lizzo, Keke Palmer, Usher, G-Eazy)

    17/04/2020 Duración: 01h25min

HUSTLERS was one of the best films of 2019 and we watched it with our good friend Abbey. We talk a lot about the 2008 financial crash, feature some rappers who were also strippers, and we collectively freak out over THAT scene. You know the one.Abbey is @drunkhousewife on Instagram

  • 103: Master of Disguise (Ft. Brandon Soderberg)

    31/03/2020 Duración: 01h49min

The Master of Disguise film starring Dana Carvey has been a longtime running joke between us and Brandon Soderberg, an incredible writer from Baltimore. We always said we'd find a way to talk about it through a rap lens, and April Fools seemed like the right opportunity, given the success of our SPICE WORLD Episode. So that's what we did. We had a conversation that somehow spans 9/11, Toronto Rap, Brandon's incredible book (out in July), No Limit, Mike Oldfield, Jhene Aiko and Matthew Knowles. Its nuts. And its great. And in this time of COVID-19, we all just need more content.:00 - :59 - Intro:59 - 53:00 - Master of Disguise53:00 - End - Toronto Rap, Brandon's Book, Young Bleed, Mike Oldfield, Matthew Knowles being a scammer.
