19 - The Unpronounceable Episode
31/01/2016 Duración: 01h01minKOYAAAAAAAAANISQAAAAATSI!!! We're getting very serious and talking documentaries today instead of all these silly entertaining films like Star Wars or Rocky. No, this week is about proper films, so who better than podcasting jokesmith artists Jack Stewart (as host) and Phil Sharman from Wikishuffle, joined by Failed Critics film buff Owen Hughes, to tackle these serious and not at all funny films. Today these very serious men tackle early 1980's artful look at society, KOYAANISQATSI, as nominated by Dino Leone, and Jack's own nomination, the slightly tragic MARWENCOL. We're banking on the fact you can't pronounce those, otherwise what a silly title this episode has! Also the group tackle their favourite DOCUMENTARIES, talk some of the suggestions as to the best documentaries from PAF fans on Twitter, duke out what they think of Netflix's MAKING A MURDERER & podcast SERIAL and finally Jack tests Owen & Phil on a docu-special QUESTION TIME. Who will triumph? Tune in to find out! Oh and see if you ca

18 - Now That's What I Call Philadelphia!
24/01/2016 Duración: 01h12minADRIAAAAAAN! ADRIAAAAAAAN! I DID IT, ADRIAAAAN!! Ahem. As you may have guessed, Pick a Flick! this week enters the ring in order to celebrate the ROCKY franchise, as new sequel CREED fights its way into cinemas in the UK. Tony Black (who just couldn't keep away for this one) returns as host, flanked by a returning Andrew Brooker and in his first ever podcast appearance, Tony's best friend and Rocky afficionado Mathew Howell joins them to work through a pugilist's paradise. From the original Oscar-winning original ROCKY, through its bigger and not necessarily better sequels, right through to Ryan Coogler's new picture, we dissect what makes them and throw in plenty of interesting trivia along the way - plus Andrew & Mat duke it out as the QUESTION TIME quiz covers all seven Rocky movies. Who will get out alive? So are you ready? FIGHT!! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

10/01/2016 Duración: 01h05min2016 is here, you bad motherf*ckers, and to celebrate the release of Quentin Tarantino's THE HATEFUL EIGHT, we are dedicated an entire episode to the smart-mouthed master of cinematic cool. Emma Platt returns as host, joined by Tarantino fans Dave Bond & Andrew Brooker (in his first appearance on Pick a Flick!), to talk Tarantino's movies, what they mean to them, and with the help of the Pick a Flick audience, try and figure out QT's Best and Worst. They go in depth on RESERVOIR DOGS (as nominated by Andrew Corvero) and PULP FICTION (nominated by Steve Aldersley), before Dave & Andrew struggle to find common ground on Quentin's latest - who likes it and who doesn't? Finally, Emma tests them in QUESTION TIME on Tarantino's movies - who will reign supreme? Follow the path of the righteous man and find out! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

30/12/2015 Duración: 02h01minThe Force is with the final episode of PICK A FLICK! for 2015, which sees Tony Black joined in her second appearance by Laura Rogers and in his debut appearance, film journalist Sean Wilson on loan from the Cultural Mirrors podcast, and they're off to a galaxy far, far away to examine STAR WARS... They pick through all seven of the movies in George Lucas' epic space opera franchise, from misguided prequel THE PHANTOM MENACE all the way to the brand new THE FORCE AWAKENS - what will they uncover on their journey? Finally, Tony pits them head to head with QUESTION TIME - which one will do the Kessel Run the fastest? Happy New Year and May the Force Be With You... 15 - Pick a (Christmas) Flick!
25/12/2015 Duración: 01h03minMeeeeery Christmas, everyone! Yes it's that time of year. Finish that mince pie. Put down the glass of sherry. Turn off Downton Abbey. PICK A FLICK! brings you festive cheer to warm the cockles with host Tony Black joined by the Wikishuffle boys aka Jack Stewart, Chris Wallace & Phil Sharman, to talk Christmas movies. Well, one Christmas movie in Richard Curtis rom-com LOVE ACTUALLY, which Chris & Phil were looking forward to revisiting in advance - will they actually agree with Tony & Jack's lack of fondness for this beloved film? Elsewhere, nominated by Steph Gabb, they look at 1974's PAPER MOON from Peter Bogdanovich, which has a particular bittersweet resonance for Phil. Did they all love it? Plus the guys take a look at some of the best and worst CHRISTMAS FILMS out there, discussing a few personal favourites, before in QUESTION TIME Tony tests their festive film knowledge - which of the Wikishufflers will come out on top? We hope you join us while having a wonderful Christmas! &nbs

14 - 'Tis a Silly Podcast
20/12/2015 Duración: 01h03minWe fart in your general direction this week as Tony Llama is joined by Matt Llama III (of The Bottle Episode) and Becca Llama (of Do You Expect Us to Talk) for a very very funny podcast in which a lot of laughter happens, ok? Ahem. Anyway, along the way they chat up a storm about MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL, nominated by Clint Thiele, and discuss whether it's better than Life of Brian... Eric Melin nominates THIS IS SPINAL TAP to be turned up to eleven, and triggers a discussion on what makes the celebrated mockumentary funny. Also you'll find out it's Norwegian title, which naturally you've always wanted to know. Expect also Latham's alternate titles for Pick a Flick! Chatter on the best and worst comedy films, and QUESTION TIME sees Becca attempt to unseat Latham's dominance at the top of the leaderboard. Incidentally, we apologise for the fault in this description. Those responsible for sacking the people who have just been sacked, have been sacked. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and

13 - Sean Connery vs He-Man
12/12/2015 Duración: 01h04minWEEEEEE HAAAAAVE THE POWEEEEEEERRRRRR!!! Ahem. Excuse me for that, but for the latest episode of PICK A FLICK! hosted by Tony Black, it seemed appropriate. Joined this time by on-loan podcasters Dave Bond (of Do You Expect Us to Talk?) and in his first appearance on the show, Owen Hughes (of Failed Critics), they discuss variously Sean Connery, He-Man, toys and zombies. Nominated by Lee Chrimes, MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE divides opinion - is it a load of rubbish or a fun slice of 80's popcorn kitsch? ZARDOZ, on the other hand, nominated by What the Craggus Saw, is agreed by all to be an extremely strange beast, but is John Boorman's 1974 oddity actually any good? Along the way, the trio talk childhood toys that became movies, before Owen attempts to take on the leaderboard in QUESTION TIME as he's tested on his chosen film, DAY OF THE DEAD. 12 - Pick a TV Show!
29/11/2015 Duración: 01h10minInfamy! Infamy! They've all got in for me this week, well Matt Latham has as he sidles over from The Bottle Episode, takes Tony Black hostage and steals his podcast, hosting for one night only, as Pick a Flick becomes PICK A TV SHOW! Tony brings to the table celebrated US sitcom ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, which he has recently gotten into, and they both explain why it's perhaps among the all-time classics. This leads into Latham talking about movies that have become, or are becoming TV shows in the future, and they both discuss successes and failures when they transition. Latham's nomination in the TV sphere is POLICE SQUAD, the early 80's spoof cop series which spawned THE NAKED GUN films, and both discuss why Lt. Frank Drebin was ahead of his time. Finally, Tony once again gives Latham the opportunity to exact dominance over the quiz leaderboard as he tests him on movie-related TV shows - can he get full marks? And if you don't like TV, don't worry it's films again all the way next time around! S

11 - Kat and Me
25/11/2015 Duración: 49minTen episodes old and may the odds be ever in our favour! Brave tributes Emma Platt, our returning host, and her guests Chris Haigh and PICK A FLICK! debutante Stacey Taylor--skipping over from her own STACEY'S POP-CULTURE PARLOUR--face the challenges and dangers of two fresh nominations. First up, courtesy of 'Robbo' McGovern, is THE HUNGER GAMES - they agree on the bravery of Effie Trinket and how great Jennifer Lawrence's arse is... This leads nicely into an overall discussion of DYSTOPIAN MOVIES, along with some great suggestions from you, the listener, on Twitter & Facebook. Lastly, nominated by Skip to the End podcast, the trio are gifted 1980's 'classic' MAC AND ME to enjoy. Stacey recounts how it traumatised her, and Emma just plain unleashes the fury! Finally, it's Stacey's turn in QUESTION TIME, this week about her chosen movie - how will she fare on the leaderboard. Give it a listen and you may catch fire! 10 - Come Dine with Babette
22/11/2015 Duración: 01h02minPolitics and food are on the menu for this episode as your host, Tony Black, invites to his table film blogger and Cinematic Dramatic co-host, Leslie Byron Pitt, alongside Wikishuffle co-host Chris Wallace (in his second appearance so far), to chow down on some picked flicks. This week they're snacking on BULWORTH, the 1998 political satire drama comedy whatever the hell it is from Warren Beatty, nominated by Jay Everington, which Les takes issue with and Chris isn't keen either - but he does lead a staunch defence of the merits of Don Cheadle... A side order of POLITICAL FILMS arrives with the guys lapping up talk about their favourite, and not so favourite, political movies - with some audience suggestions too... Finally they gorge themselves on BABETTE'S FEAST, a 1988 Danish language drama from Gabriel Axel, nominated by Claire Tanner, which all three are surprised how much they enjoyed. Chris, however, was reminded of a certain cheesy, British cookery show... Last but not least, it's Les' turn to... &

08 - Eyes Wide on the Tide
15/11/2015 Duración: 01h05minNo password required as this week we go down the rabbit hole of secret sexual societies, with a detour involving submarines thrown in. Tony Black hosts, joined by guests Chris Haigh and Dave Bond--on loan from his 007 podcast Do You Expect Us To Talk?--as they take on two more nominations. Firstly they tackle Stanley Kubrick's last picture, EYES WIDE SHUT, as nominated by The Comic Roast, and find themselves entranced yet distanced from a curious last salvo from the great man. They discuss, indeed, the FINAL FILMS OF GREAT DIRECTORS - between your Kubrick's, Hitchcock's, and Lumet's, who comes out top or falls to the bottom? Switching gears, Tony and Dave attempt to turn Chris on to CRIMSON TIDE, Tony Scott's 90's sea bound action thriller, which Chris hasn't had time to see. Will he be aboard this nomination by Jane Douglas-Jones or not? Finally, it's time for Chris to face QUESTION TIME and take on the leaderboard in a discussion of his chosen movie - can he reign supreme? Come on in! See ac

07 - Under Your Skin
11/11/2015 Duración: 01h13minTwisting and turning your way, this week's podcast sees host Tony Black joined by friend Laura Rogers, comic book fan and roller derby extraordinaire, to tackle two nominated films and stake her claim on the quiz leaderboard. Firstly, nominated by Elizabeth Marshall, they look at M. Night Shyamalan's UNBREAKABLE, his second picture. Tony reckons it's his best, but does Laura agree? This leads them to a broad discussion on MOVIES WITH TWISTS, which likely will see Tony receive a fair few pieces of hate mail - here be spoilers! Beyond that, nominated by both Rich Walker & In Session Film, the pair look at UNDER THE SKIN, Jonathan Glazer's defiantly undefinable sci-fi drama - and this time both Tony and Laura agree on whether they like it or not... Lastly, when quizzed about a very sporty film of her choice, Laura attempts to unseat the 007 team from the top leaderboard spot - will she succeed? 06 - Spice Up Your (Sex) Life
08/11/2015 Duración: 01h17minBecause one appearance wasn't enough for them, Tony Black is joined again by best mates/bounders Matt Dawson & Matt Latham in an episode definitely absolutely honestly not recorded at the same time as Episode 3. Promise. This week they're talking about films they've picked, starting with CONFESSIONS OF A WINDOW CLEANER, the 1974 British sex comedy 'classic', which Dawson denies picking but secretly enjoys... It leads neatly indeed to a dissection of BRITISH SEX COMEDIES, and a genre that has an interested backstory that factors into British movie making as a whole... Latham then gets his turn as the lads discuss SPICE WORLD, the 1997 big screen outing for legendary pop group the Spice Girls. Tony thinks it's rubbish and is freaked out by Roger Moore suckling a pig - can Latham talk him round? Finally it's Dawson's turn to face QUESTION TIME on his favourite movie - does he have what it takes to beat Latham's score? See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

05 - Do You Expect Them to Talk?
01/11/2015 Duración: 01h34minNow pay attention, 00’s! This podcast has all the usual refinements - Tony Black(finger) back on hosting duties, chairing this special episode about all things James Bond, as Spectre arrives and thrills the world. Appropriately, this episode brings over hosts of new 007 podcast, Do You Expect Us To Talk, to join him - Chris Byrne, Becca Andrews and Bond… Dave Bond. No relation. It’s all about the Daniel Craig era in this episode, as the team pick their way through CASINO ROYALE first, discussing it’s fascinating history alongside the picture itself… The follow up, QUANTUM OF SOLACE, is defended by Chris as they wonder if it’s quite as bad as its reputation suggests… Chris (and Dave) are less enthused with SKYFALL, the monster hit of Craig’s Bond era, and they unpick why… Before the big one - fresh reactions to SPECTRE, the all new 007 film, and how it may influence the future of James Bond on screen… Finally, the group team up for 008 QUESTION TIME, facing eight questions about the Classic James Bond...

04 - Podhouse of Horror Vol. 1
28/10/2015 Duración: 57minSwearing her way into the hosting chair for the first time on PICK A FLICK!, Emma Platt is reunited with Chris Haigh aka The Haighster, one of her two Chris-based partners in crime from Black Hole Cinema, and is joined by debutant Chris Wallace - seconded from his award-winning comedy podcast, WIKISHUFFLE. With Halloween on the horizon, the trio are all about the horror this week, with the first nomination from Emma’s other half Mike Abbott being LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, the kitsch 80’s curio — did they take to it? Emma also returns with the first solo DEAD MEAT of the show, this week focusing on Body Horror - prepare to lose control… PHANTASM, the strange late 1970’s horror classic, comes next thanks to nominee The Ginger Prince, but will any of them come out believing it’s a horror great? Then last but not least, Emma pits the two Chris’ head to head in a HALLOWEEN HORROR QUIZ - can they unseat Matt Latham at the top of the leaderboard? Listen… if you daaaaaaaare… See acast.com/privacy for pr

03 - You're Tearing Me Apart, FIFA!
21/10/2015 Duración: 01h10minThe podcast gets back on the straight and narrow this week as Tony Black is joined by best friends/reprobates Matt Latham & Matt Dawson for an unofficial Worst Movie Ever episode. Latham and Tony explain why they love THE ROOM, Tommy Wiseau's terrible 'drama', which Dawson hates... They chew into the recognised Worst Films Ever, taking recommendations from the great and good of Twitter & Facebook. Before on the recommendation of Daily Mirror's Paul Field, they look at UNITED PASSIONS, the FIFA biopic which Dawson attempts to defend and Tony explains is a propaganda whitewash. Who'll win after 90 minutes? (not that it takes that long). Also when Latham is quizzed on his favourite film, where will he stand on the Pick a Flick leaderboard by the end? 02 - Doth Mother Know You Weareth Her Drapes?
18/10/2015 Duración: 01h15minAlmost immediately after establishing the show's mission statement, Tony decides to break it this week by picking the flicks himself and doing a Shakespeare at the movies special. Joined by long time friend and professional drama teacher Louise Macarthur-Clare, who is something of a Bard buff, they talk through some brief history of the playwrights appearances on film, before hacking into several adaptations. They cover HENRY V, the 40's Olivier version, plus the two major ROMEO & JULIET adaptations in the 1960's & 1990's - guess which one Tony hates and Lou loves. With a whistle stop tour of 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU and a look at the new MACBETH, they finish as Tony conducts the first QUESTION TIME and poses Lou eight Shakespeare film questions for her to answer.
