Sinopsis

The name Galaktacus originates from a youthful mispronunciation of a classic comic book character best known for eating planets. Before all of the blockbuster film franchises and the non-stop spoiler-filled internet coverage there was limited space to openly discuss such topics let alone their proper pronunciations. ("Is it Mag-neato or Mag-net-o?") So with that in mind, what started as a long-running, inside joke has now become a word that best defines the spirit of this podcastlooking at comic books, sci-fi, film, television, music, literature and gaming from the perspective of individuals who have grown up in this evolving "nerd culture" and are amazed by the ways in which it has taken over the mainstream. Galaktacus attempts to eschew that "angry nerd" character and celebrate the good, the bad and the weird that comes along with this current golden age of pop culture. So let the devouring begin!

Episodios

  • Episode #16: Bring on the Bad Guys Part 1

    07/10/2015 Duración: 01h21min

Behold, an episode of Galaktacus so large that it must be split into two-parts! Here the podcast bites off more than it can chew on the epically enormous topic of villains. What makes a good bad guy (or gal) today? How have they evolved from hand-wringing, mustache-twirling, maniacal-laughing ne'er do wells into more relatable (and hate-able) multidimensional characters? Which members of the Marvel and DC Universe get the dirty work done? Join us as we "Bring On The Bad Guys!"

  • Episode #15: A Crisis on Two Televisions...

    27/09/2015 Duración: 01h08min

For Galaktacus this "Golden Age" of television that we currently inhabit is becoming more like the buffet at Golden Corral. There's so much to choose from but how much of it is actually good—or even good for you? Are we devouring too much filler and not leaving enough room for the good stuff? And what qualifies as the good stuff nowadays? If The Sopranos started this golden age does the completion of Mad Men mark its end? And what shows (The Walking Dead? Game of Thrones? Mr. Robot?) caused the downfall? Tune in here and give a listen!

  • Episode #14: What a Revoltin' Development

    14/09/2015 Duración: 01h07min

Galaktacus is back on track, back from vacation and back to school for our second season! This episode is all about the first family of comics, The Fantastic Four (without whom this podcast wouldn't have a name). We've stretched our brains to figure out if F4 is ultimately nullified by it's latest box office failure and why one of the most important and inventive titles of all time is so difficult to get right outside of the pages of the "World's Greatest Comic Magazine." So "flame on" and fire us up!

  • Episode #13: Cobra Orgy Fortress

    13/08/2015 Duración: 01h07min

If you're anything like Galaktacus the second season of True Detective might have given you some digestive problems too. But then again, we like to view it as a bit of an acquired taste. On this week's podcast we discuss the good (the action) the bad (Tim Riggins) and the Velcoro (denim!) of TD2 and give season three the "Elevator Action" treatment. And while this season might have had you singing "Nevermind" about the plot and characters, this episode should settle your stomach.

  • Episode #12: Spy vs. Spy

    05/08/2015 Duración: 01h11min

On this week's episode Galaktacus embarks on an impossible mission to devour all things espionage. From M:I 5 and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. to The Americans and Deutschland 83 we go deep under cover to reveal why the spy game stays the game...and in our newest segment we play the "I'm Calling It Now" game to predict the twists and turns in the new James Bond film—and we want your help! This podcast will not self destruct after listening so no need to disavow it. In fact, tell a friend or an enemy or a frenemy all about it.

  • Episode #11: Books, Check Em Out

    31/07/2015 Duración: 01h06min

The hottest of months stir a hunger in Galaktacus that can only be sated by books! On Episode 11 of the podcast, we reveal our "summer reading" lists—both current and classic—and delve deep into the debate of "print vs. digital" and the place of fiction/non-fiction in the face of a multitude of modern day distractions. Plus The California Raisins.

  • Episode #10: The Answer is Pym Particles

    24/07/2015 Duración: 01h17min

Galaktacus Episode 10 is here and our biggest podcast yet just happens to be all about this summer's smallest cinematic hero. Paul Rudd is our bud but are there other characters and stories more worthy of the big screen treatment than Ant Man? Jump onto to some "Elevator Action" as we debate that question and more!

  • Episode #9: The Big Long Con

    17/07/2015 Duración: 01h01min

Galaktacus is back! On this edition of the podcast we take a square-purple-eyed look at "The Big, Long Con" and what came out of four crazy days in San Diego—the DC movies, the Star Wars panel, the lack of Marvel and some updates on our favorite TV shows and funny-books.

  • Episode #8: The Arena of Sport

    02/07/2015 Duración: 01h16min

Galaktacus has two words for you on this 4th of July and they're not his usual, "I hunger." No, in honor of Independence Day and a Real American Hero those two words are (raise your fist and say it with us now) "Yo Joe!" On this extended holiday edition of the podcast we salute the triple threat (toys+comics+ cartoon) phenomenon of G.I. Joe that gripped our youth (and possibly adulthood) tighter than Sgt. Slaughter applying the Cobra Clutch. Just remember...listening is half the battle.

  • Episode #7: The State of the Batman Address

    23/06/2015 Duración: 01h09min

Please join the Galaktacus crew four our first annual STATE OF THE BATMAN ADDRESS!! In which the boys try to answer the question; who is Batman in 2015? What works about the character? How has he changed since 1939 (or 1989?), Where does he get those wonderful toys? Is Ali Knox due for a comeback? All this and more on the latest GALAKTACUS!
