Clever Combo

In this episode of Clever Combo, Lydia reminds us of two things. First, she’s a malicious, devious brewer, and second (and perhaps more importantly) Jodah is, in fact, a thing. “You Forgot About Jodah” is a XLN-WAR standard deck that digs hard and fast to drop Jodah on four, while holding up a Dive Down for good measure. But the thing is, he has some friends who are far, far more terrifying than a little old 4/3 flyer. Particularly notable are the herd of Dinosaurs - Zacama, Zetalpa, Ghalta But if that doesn’t get you, Apex of Power, Nexus, and Omniscience form a solid backup plan. A Transformative sideboard allows the deck to slide into a more traditional ramp deck, with Carny T leading the charge. In this episode of Clever Combo, like so many others, JJ is drawn to Ravnica by Ral’s interplanar beacon, and he brought some friends with him. Inspired by the availability of low-cmc walkers that have real, immediate board impact, JJ set out to build a Superfriends deck, and the result is spicy. Deck starts at 8:25 “With Friends Like These...” is a XLN-WAR standard deck that curves impactful Grixis spells into midgame utility walkers, with a handful of powerful finishers. Half control deck and half Superfriends. Particularly notable is the new Nicky B, who drops pretty easily on 5 (hey, mana is free on Ravnica, right?) and a Sarkhan that can turn your little walker crew into a surprise alpha swing.   We’d love to hear from you! JJ and Logan return with two more standard brews; Logan's persistent artifact recursion deck, "Trash Compactor" is all about making an impenetrable wall of artifact creatures and then closing the game out with Metalwork Colossus. JJ and Logan jump right into reviewing two of their favorite standard brews: Logan's Esper combo deck "Revolt for Riches" and JJ's 4-color rampy control deck "Simic Summonings." Revolt aims to combo off with Hidden Stockpile, Anointed Procession and Ruthless Knave for an unstoppable wave of servo tokens and treasure, only to bring down the hammer with Marionette Master, ending the game in one sudden turn. Simic Summonings leverages ramp spells at 2 separate casting costs along with Metallurgic Summonings to swarm the field with slightly fewer, but much bigger construct tokens.
