Tangazo

For this special episode of Tangazo host Hank Thompson welcomes in studio Mayor of Dellwood Reggie Jones, mayor of Normandy Patrick Green and St. Louis county political Godfather Elbert Walton. They discuss the "Better Together" proposal, what needs to be done in order to improve St. Louis city and county, and their overall take on the two merging together. Half way in, former Kansas City councilman and police officer Alvin Brooks chimes in via telephone. Brooks delivers a few interesting perspectives on the current state of Kansas City as well as a few similarities and differences between St. Louis and Kansas City! 

Vice President of Outreach for Better Family Life Inc. James Clark, joins Hank Thompson for the second episode of Tangazo of 2019. Clark and his organization are responsible for the well being and improvement of several families all around the St. Louis metropolitan area. The organization provides Gun Violence De-escalation centers, Neighborhood Alliance, The "Pulpits to Porches program" and is responsible for arranging many more great deeds and programs in St. Louis. James and Hank discuss gentrification in St. Louis, a bit of Better Family Life's history, their future endeavors, as well as Clark's personal commitment to improving the lives of others!  

To begin the new year, SNAP (Survivor's Network of those Abused by Priests) founder David Clohessy joins host Hank Thompson for a very special and intense episode of Tangazo. Clohessy breaks down the purpose and benefits of his organization, while extending a helping hand to those in need and encouraging them to join. He also gives us a bit of his personal experience, background, how he overcame his personal obstacles and advice to those who are victims of abuse. 

This special episode of Tangazo is dedicated to Charlotte Ottley. Charlotte is a public relations consultant and long time friend of host Hank Thompson. She is in urgent need of a kidney donor. We are joined by Larry D. Bonds, former heart transplant recipient and founder of the "Larry D. Bonds 4 Life Foundation", as well as Dr. Will Ross, Professor at Washington University School of Medicine-Division of Nephrology, specializing in kidney disease. Dr. Ross answers our questions via phone. This episode is very informative, while also raising awareness for ourselves and most importantly Charlotte Ottley!

Dr. Malaika Horne is the author of the new book, Mother Wit. She is also the founding director of the Executive Leadership Consortium – College of Business Administration at the University of Missouri – St. Louis (UMSL). Previously she served as a professor at Webster University and has served as the managing director of Narcotics Service Council. Dr Horne is a journalist, academic writer, and serves as a leader and consultant to a number of community organizations and non-profits. Gwen Moore is the curator of urban landscape and community identity with the Missouri History Museum. Moore is responsible for the museum's remarkable exhibit, "#1 in Civil Rights," which closed in Aprli 2018 after a nearly 400 month run in April 2018. These celebrated sisters are daughters of Flora Horne, the inspiration for Dr Horne's book, Mother Wit: Exalting Motherhood While Honoring a Great Mother. Lewis Reed, according to his bio on the City of St Louis website, "has spent over two decades serving the people of St. Louis in elected office, civic and charitable involvement. He is currently the President of the St. Louis Board of Aldermen and serves as the head of the legislative branch of city government. Reed is the first African-American ever to be elected to this position.  "In his time in office," the city website continues, "Lewis has championed many causes including funding recreation centers, creating a one million dollar annual recurring youth crime prevention fund, founding Bike St. Louis and the rebirth of Washington Avenue. He is responsible for passing legislation addressing crime prevention, creating opportunities for at-risk youth, environmental sustainability, as well as neighborhood and economic development.
