The Modern Family is fluid & flexible and the Bible is still helpful today. Family is a gift from God our Father. As parents we should always learn, communicate and forgive. As children we should honour our parents by accepting & appreciating them. However well we do - only Jesus kept all the commands and we are saved by His actions and not our own. Exodus 20:1-17

Life in the desert was hard: desperate for food and water the people grumbled, questioned God and doubted. Moses listens to God and obeys. Our faith in Jesus grows as we see Him as the bread of life, the one struck by God and from whom the Spirit is poured out.Exodus 17:1-7

Fleeing Egypt, celebrating the Passover and crossing the Red Sea! A new beginning, each person signed up to by painting the blood over their door. Follow the sacrifice of a perfect lamb the adventure begins. The picture of baptism shows how the past completely dealt with, help for the present and hope for a better future. Exodus 12:1-13

How can a loving God not only allow but deliberately inflict suffering on the nation of Egypt. Adam explains how God used the plagues to ultimately lead to salvation for for all mankind. Ex 5-11.

After waiting 80years Moses encounters God at the burning bush and is called to go and gather worshippers. Moses lack of confidence is seen by his 5 questions. God answers not by saying you are great but declaring 'I AM'. God still calls and commissions today - how do you respond? Exodus 3

Pete kicked off the new series by looking at how Moses was prepared for his task. He gained a sense of his part in the big story, he was thankful for his personal history, his character was developed and his skills refined. Are you ready? Exodus 2.

Ezekiel is led by God in the midst of apparent defeat and disaster to declare the glorious victory of God. Our Lord can do the impossible - so speak out what you hear from Him. Ultimately our hope is not in the vast army but the Lord who starts and finishes the work. Ezekiel 37:1-14

Solomon establishes himself on the throne and then makes the decision to build the Temple for God. The process involved many dates and details but he saw it through to completion.Will you serve God in your life? 2 Chronicles 1:1, 2:1, 3:1, 5:1.

The hero who is still to come

2 words stand out from the chapter: City & Submission. We want to see God's Kingdom established in London and to play our part in making the capital great. Nehemiah 11:1-19

In view of all this.... words that sum up ch9 and make sense of ch10! The people make a covenant with God which is demonstrated by their choice of Spouse, their behaviour on the Sabbath and their commitment to the Sanctuary. As a result of all that God has done for us we live all for Him. Nehemiah 9:38-10:38

People love to be weird, especially when they are trying to be religious. Adam explains the difference between the gospel and religion, whilst looking at how at this point in the story the people of God have suddenly started to act a little weird. Nehemiah 8:13 - 9:38.

The people gather round the book: they show reverence for the book are moved by the book and obey the book! Nehemiah 8:1-13

Despite opposition the wall is completed by the help of God: yet the job is not done. Nehemiah understand that Gods people are to be numerous and expanding: a message that echoes through time. The prophets declared it, Jesus taught it & the Early Church modelled it. Growth continues in the church around the world today! Nehemiah 7:1-5

Nehemiah was not so busy with the project that he stopped caring for the people. The church should model generosity - investing time and money in caring for the poor. Nehemiah 5:1-19

The list of names teaches us that we are to Build Together: unity of intention, diversity of interest and variety of involvement. The place where we start and finish is the sheep gate - pointing to the perfect lamb of God - JESUS. Nehemiah 3:1-32

The story of Nehemiah shows us that we are to play our part in helping to build the earthly city, whilst bringing more of the heavenly city to the now. But before we DO anything SPEND time with the Father. Nehemiah 1:1-11
