This week, The Doc is feeling reasonably refreshed about Smackdown Live after purging some of the thoughts that wouldn't seem to go away until they were written in column form.  So, not that he is teeming with excitement about Battleground or anything, but he is ready to put the more positive things about the PPV into perspective.  Undoubtedly, the show looks better on paper than it does through the TV build-up and Doc will share his thoughts on each match in detail.  Also to be touched on will be Kurt Angle and the Netflix show that everyone is talking about: GLOW.

When we heard the name of this show we all scratched our collective heads. Surely, we thought, this was a rib or something. But it wasn't. There really was going to be a WWE pay per view event called Great Balls of Fire. And if you'd told any of us in that initial period of bemused shock that it would wind up looking like one of the top-to-bottom best shows of the year going into it... well, you'd have likely been laughed at. That's exactly what we're staring down, though. On paper, this show looks like it could be fantastic. But did it live up to the hype? That's what Steven Bell and Aftershock are here to figure out. From Braun and Roman in an Ambulance Match to Sheamus and Cesaro taking on the Hardys in an Tag Team Championship Ironman Match, all the way to Sasha Banks going after the Women's Championship against the Goddess, Alexa Bliss and the potential Dream Match of Samoa Joe and Brock Lesnar for the Undisputed crown... man. Fall Brawl 1997 takes place in North Carolina, in the shadow of the end of the career of Arn Anderson. We all know the story: Arn gives an emotional farewell and the nWo mock it. Some saw this as blasphemy, and some saw it as a sense of humor. I don't care which way you see it, as long as you have the sense to see that such an angle demands the horsemen avenge Arn Anderson.  And yet, in a move that would rival the Cartwrights being left for dead on the front steps of the Ponderosa, the nWo leave the Horsemen for dead in North Carolina, with Kevin Nash, on mic, making explicit what he must not have trusted fans to figure out for themselves. Twenty years ago this week, arguably the greatest non big 4 PPV of all time took place in Calgary. A truly epoch defining event changed the game for WWF moving forwards and propelled the legendary Border Wars storyline to fever pitch in a blockbuster ten man main event, but what was unusual about this show was how well the undercard held up its end to create one of the most consistent shows in history. This week, The Doc is once again in the path of WWE's game of pay-per-view roulette, so he'll previewing what promises to be a very engaging Raw brand PPV in Great Balls of Fire.  Brock Lesnar and Samoa Joe are on a fascinating collision course; fascinating for several reasons, not the least of which is the manner in which the feud has been booked but also the intriguing thought of the forthcoming match's format (i.e. to go Beast Mode or not to go Beast Mode, that is the question).  Raw's depth has filled the rest of the card quite nicely as well, so there will be a lot to discuss!
