An eventful night for World Championship Wrestling, Souled Out 1998 marks the first co-branded WCW/nWo event. It also marks the in-ring WCW debut of Bret Hart, as well as (unfortunately) the final PPV commentary appearance of Dusty Rhodes. We also FINALLY get the PPV arrival of Heel Jericho, as well as the beginning of the singles career ascent of Booker Throw in a few twists and turns, and it would appear that WCW was looking to build off of the huge success of Starrcade to come into 1998 swinging. Who could've known that their run of dominance over the WWF had but just a few short months remaining?  It's a night of swerves, changes, Championship resolutions and Big Sexy Giant Killing as The Legacy Series finds its way into yet another new year and uncover the narratives that hide within WCW/nWo Souled Out 1998

This week Mazza, Maverick and Plan take a look back at the first two editions of NXT's SummerSlam weekend special, TakeOver Brooklyn.  They begin things by looking at the first event which was headlined by two stars who had recently moved to the main roster and were passing the torch.  It was of course a night most fondly remembered for arguably the greatest womens match of all time.  Fast forward a year and you have an even more stacked card.  This time the torch passing would be done by stars on the verge of a call up and the show would be stolen, as was the case throughout 2016, by a couple of top guys.

This week, The Doc has on his mind a fellow pro wrestling podcaster's recent comments regarding Seth Rollins going down as greater than Shawn Michaels when all is said and done and, following that train of thought further, has put under the microscope how others in the Rollins generation will project by the time their careers are done.  Given that Doc wrote the book on the all-time greatest of the WrestleMania Era, thinking about where the likes of Styles, Rollins, Reigns, Ambrose, Owens, etc. would rank in comparison to peers of similar skill sets is fascinating to him.  Perhaps you'll find his analysis on the matter interesting as well; he brought in the help of an M.D./PhD with a love for analytics.  Doc will also go "Around the Wrestling World" this week to look at the most intriguing current events in WWE.

WCW: The Legacy Series - Starrcade '97

On this week's show Mazza and Maverick take a look back at the SummerSlams since the start of The Right Side of the Pond.  With the fifth edition coming up, they take a look at the previous four hottest parties of the summer.  They begin where the Pond started, on the road to SummerSlam 13.  They look at the fantastic double main event and just how well it holds up still.  They then head to 2014 where we saw the birth of the Lesnar squash, a continuation of Bryan vs HHH through their wives, a huge night for the disdain the internet would develop for Roman Reigns while his former Shield Brothers tore each other apart.  They look at how 2015 would give be a huge but not very entertaining moment in a revolution and bring us a champion vs champion match that played second fiddle to Undertaker's redemption for the end of the streak.  They close things out by remembering last year which will be remembered for two big showcase matches, one which delivered huge and another that we'd probably all prefer to forget.

This week, The Doc unfortunately was unable to connect (literally - internet issues) with Dave Fenichel for their traditional post-PPV chat, so he's going it alone and tackling more than just WWE Battleground, which he could not bring himself to discuss for an entire podcast; needless to say he was disappointed and he does not mind saying so while prognosticating on the demise of the Smackdown brand in general.  However, Summerslam is upon us and WWE is making some interesting booking decisions for the year's second biggest PPV.  Are they going over well with Doc?

Sometimes a wrestling show exceeds expectations to wow us, looking pretty boring or outright lame on paper and then delivering huge when the cameras start to roll. Tonight will probably not be one of those nights. But hey, it could be. Right? We have the return of the Punjabi Prison as Randy Orton tries yet again to regain the WWE Championship from Jinder Mahal. We'll also be determining a new #1 contender for the Women's Championship as pretty much every SmackDown female superstar besides Carmella and the Champ, Naomi, battle to see who will go on to SummerSlam. Throw in the in-ring PPV debut of Mike Kanellis and you've got a show that just may surprise us. Or not. mystic has been a fan of Scott Hall since the first time he saw him as the Diamond Studd in 1991. By 1992, he was main eventing in the WWF as Razor Ramon. With the IC run, the ladder match, the history in WWF, Razor Ramon went back to WCW to be the forerunner of the nWo. But we all know, for reasons personal and other, Scott Hall would never be a main event player. This is why it is strange, at WW3 in 1997, with a world title shot at Superbrawl VIII on the line, WCW would choose Scott Hall to win the battle royal, without push before or after the event. Should Scott Hall have won WW3? Should somebody else? Gives us a listen and let us know who you think should have won and challenged Sting or Hogan at Superbrawl 1998.
