Hi, welcome to Xicana Code Switchers. Your co-hosts are Ariana and Patricia. We are both Xicanas in our Masters program who are also scholar-practitioners in Student Affairs. This podcast is intended to provide insights into higher education with a focus on social justice and platicas of student experiences.

    For this week, Zarian Williamson joins us in a discussion about his experience as a STEM major and recent graduate of California State University, Monterey Bay. We discuss his experience as a Residential Advisor (RA) in undergrad and as a Head RA in SMASH. At the end, Zarian shares some advice for students interested in pursuing STEM and a medical field. In this new episode, we catch up with each other on our summer happenings and discuss the lessons we've learned thus far. From defining who is considered "local" to understanding ourselves in different spaces, institutions, etc. What are restorative practices? Restorative practices is a social science that studies how to improve and repair relationships between people and communities. The purpose is to build healthy communities, increase social capital, decrease crime and antisocial behavior, repair harm and restore relationships. Mayra also offered her advice to anyone thinking about pursuing a PhD program and applying to prestigious fellowships.
