    Jim Sherman has been the head baseball coach at the University of Delaware since the 2001 season. He has won 581 games with the Blue Hens, leading them to the NCAA Regionals on two occasions. Sherman also was a star outfielder at Delaware and spent five years playing in the Houston Astros minor league system.   • Villanova Football's huge win at JMU helps them climb the FCS rankings

    The Villanova football team is now ranked as high as 5th in the country in FCS after a gigantic 28-27 win on the road last weekend at James Madison. The Wildcats overcome an 11 point halftime deficit, shut out the Dukes in the second half, and snapped JMU’s 20 game regular season winning streak, their 19 game home winning streak, and a 15 game winning streak against Colonial Athletic Association teams, including the playoffs. The win was sealed when the Wildcats converted a 4th and 1 from their own 29 with less than 2 minutes left. Head coach Mark Ferrante join's Matt Leon to talk about that win, the gutsy decision to go for it on that 4th down, and also take a look ahead at Villanova’s next game on Saturday against Albany on the road.   

  • John Bunting on breaking through as an Eagle, coaching at Rowan

    John Bunting spent 11 seasons playing linebacker for the Eagles and he was a key member of the 1980 team that went to Super Bowl XV. After his playing days he went into coaching and enjoyed a great run leading Division III Rowan University in Glassboro, and he is set to be inducted this month into Rowan’s Hall of Fame.     For the last several years Frank McKee has been teaching a course at La Salle University about William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania, and Sam Hinkie, the former GM of the 76ers and the architect of what became known as The Process. McKee, the Director of the American studies program at La Salle, says the approach Hinkie took in building the Sixers has a lot of similarities to what Penn went through as the leader of Pennsylvania and the planner behind Philadelphia. We wanted to know everything about this so we asked Frank McKee to come on the podcast to talk about how Sam Hinkie and William Penn both learned to trust the process in Philadelphia.

But she’s back in the college game now with the Bears and Matt Leon caught up with her to talk about the decision to take the Ursinus job.

    Stephanie Carideo  is the new head women's basketball coach at Division III Haverford College. She replaces Bobbi Morgan, who led the Fords to 4 NCAA Tournament appearances in 13 years. Carideo comes to Haverford after serving as an assistant at the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to that she was an assistant for the great Herb Magee with the Jefferson University men’s team. This will be her second college head coaching gig, she led PSU-Abington into its first ever NCAA Division III Tournament back in 2015. 1-on-1's Matt Leon talked with Carideo, who was a standout player at Jefferson, about coming on board at Haverford.

  • '54 years might be enough.' Legendary Philadelphia Basketball Coach Herb Magee to Retire at End of Season

    Herb Magee, the Hall of Fame coach at Division II Thomas Jefferson University has announced that he will retire at the end of the 2021-2022 season, his 54th as head coach. Magee, inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011, has 1,123 career wins, second all-time in men’s college basketball history behind only Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski. Magee has been at the school in one role or another since 1959. First he was a star player for the Rams, scoring 2,235 points, good for third all-time in program history. Then he spent four seasons as an assistant before taking over as the head coach at then Philadelphia Textile in 1967. Magee’s longtime assistant Jimmy Reilly will take over the program as head coach after the season. Matt Leon caught up with Herb Magee to talk about his decision, what he expects his last season to be like, and much more.
