It's Halloween Havoc 1994 in the legacy series.  This show features the final match in the Hogan-Flair trilogy, and we discuss whether this is the best match in the series, or not. Also, we continue to watch the career of Steve Austin detoured in favor of Hacksaw Jim Duggan, and we discuss who, in all the world, thought anyone would care about Hogan-Butcher as a followup to Hogan-Flair. This week in their fan history of the Royal Rumble, 'Plan and Mav delve deeply into the persistent urban myths and half truths that surround the event to try and determine how they arose. They begin with the idea of the "experimental title challenger" trope, before examining whether predictability is really a problem for Royal Rumbles, or if, in point of fact, predictability is largely the point of the whole affair. They'll conclude by looking at the destructive habit of inserting novelty and nostalgia entrants into what is, effectively, a number one contender's match for a Wrestlemania title shot. It's time for WWE Hell in a Cell! We've got three main events this time around, one of them of genuine historic significance. Rusev and Roman Reigns look to bring an end to their long feud over the US Title while surrounded by the steel. Meanwhile, Seth Rollins looks to gain revenge upon The Authority by knocking off HHH's "Chosen One" and taking the Universal Championship from Kevin Owens. On top of that, history will be made as WWE Raw Women's Champion, Sasha Banks, and arch nemesis Charlotte become the first women to ever compete inside Hell in a Cell as they face off for the Women's Championship. Even with all that and the other matches going down, perhaps the biggest question of the night concerns which match is going on last. We'll find out together! The only good thing about Hogan in WCW, for the mystic, are the shows when Hulk Hogan doesn't appear in WCW. Already, one PPV after deeating Flair, Hogan is not on the Fall Brawl 1994 card. This will be repeated in events like Starrcade 1995 and the summer of 1996, when Hogan is absent and the WCW guys (think Flair, Sting, Luger) get to actually be top players again. In Fall Brawl 1994, Dusty and Dustin enter War Games together, Sting/Vader/Guardian Angel compete to be the number-one contender, and Hacksaw Jim Duggan shames Ricky Steamboat and Steve Austin in 30 seconds or less. Hogan may not be wrestling, but his mark is still on the show. Join us as we discuss the complications of WCW in the Hogan era.

In the second part of their series paying proper reverence to the history of the Royal Rumble, 'Plan and Mav break down the undercards of the January classic, arguing that they are just as important as the reverse battle royal itself. They begin with the argument that the undercard was key from the very first event and take you through a whistlestop tour of issues surrounding the supporting matches that took place around the Rumble, including discussion of how the new brand split might affect the show moving forward.

WCW: The Legacy Series - Clash of the Champions XXVIII

This Friday, on Lords of Pain Radio's weekly Friday night podcast The Right Side of the Pond, Maverick and 'Plan kick off a brand new podcast mini-series: The True History of the Royal Rumble! Over the next four or five weeks the boys will present an alternative to WWE's recently announced DVD, that treats the best show of the year with appropriate reverence, by properly inspecting the history of Royal Rumble, its growth, evolution and character.
