  • How being a single woman in the Black church was traumatic

    29/07/2020 Duración: 43min

The church, for many, in the Black community is seen collectively as a place of refuge, safety, and freedom. It has been deemed an environment to collectively gather to worship, connect with the divine, and fellowship with other believers but that has only been a part of the experience for many Black women. The other part of being a part of a ministry is riddled with shame, microaggressions, and trauma that's very much connected to a relationship status or appearance. This week's confession comes from, our very own Danielle Moore, sharing her lived experience of being single, without children in the Black church.

  • The Power of A Confession

    15/07/2020 Duración: 41min

Typically, Danielle & Cameo are active members of the "Mind Your Business" Ministries but this time around we struggled a bit and had to have a conversation around Jada's & Will's recent Red Table Talk. It's only because amid all the fun, games, and discussions there were definitely crucial elements of the conversation that we didn't see being had, particularly trauma bonding and the power of a confession. So this week, Danielle Moore, licensed mental health therapist of Refresh Wellness Center, and Cameo King, The Good Girl Podcast host, sit down and unpack just how powerful a confession can be in changing our lives and what we missed listening to the Red Table Talk.

  • My role in oppressive relationships

    02/07/2020 Duración: 18min

Whether I knew it or not, at one point in my life, I believed my value as woman shifted because of what I could do for a man - whether it was to “upgrade him” “be his peace” or “hold it down.” And that was probably one thee most damaging beliefs I didn’t know I had. At one point, I honestly believed that I needed to be all the things that a man desired to be valuable. I even held that harmful standard for other women. So this week, I'm sharing how my role oppressive relationships harmed myself and harmed others.

It is ingrained into every fiber of our being that we as humans can control much of our life outcomes. If we work hard, we will get great results. If we eat well, our bodies will be healthy. If we plan for the worst, we will always be prepared. But if there is anything that the first 6 months of 2020 has taught us, it's that we have very little control over the flow of our lives. Listen as Kyona McGhee, founder of the McGhee law and the "Beyonce of Trademark Lawyers" details losing control in every part of life.

  • Black Women, who told us our lives didn't matter?

    05/06/2020 Duración: 46min

Breonna Taylor would have been 27 years today. She was killed  2 months ago when police broke down her apartment door and shot her 8 times. No charges have been filed in connection with her death.  This, like too many other violent experiences of Black women have seemed to get lost in national conversations about police brutality and racism. This week we ask, "Black women, who told us our lives didn't matter?" We attempt to address why it seems like the stories and lives of Black women are simply not a priority.

I am chatting with the founder of the Broken Brown Egg, Regina Townsend, about the complex truth about infertility with Black women.  In this chat, Regina shares what leads to private suffering, the fact that a child doesn't "cure" infertility, and why you don't ask women about their wombs.

  • "The Capitalization of Christian Purity Culture" and how it has failed us during a global pandemic.

    13/05/2020 Duración: 45min

"Christian Purity" has been the hallmark and foundation of many churches throughout western society. It is the idea that the success of a believer's faith is summed up in their performance and ability to "do good." But what happens when you perform well and do good but your goals, desires, and dreams are null and void or simply fall apart? This week's conversation focuses on just that - the failed faith of many women who believed, followed, and proclaimed that a form of purity (celibacy, modesty, going to church) would produce some type of extra blessing ( a husband, kids, and security)...but it didn't.

  • Black Girls, Why we think we are ugly...

    12/03/2020 Duración: 24min

This week I am holding space for black girls and women because of a video that literally ripped my heart in two. It's a video of an Atlanta-based hairstylist encouraging a little Black girl named Ariyonna to love her beauty after the girl calls herself ugly.
